4 ply knitting worsted weight yarn, 5 (7) ounces
Knitting needles size 6
3 (4) toggle buttons
Pair needles

Back
Cast on 45(63) sts and work 9 rows in garter st (every row knit — 1st row is wrong side). Dec 1 st at each end of next and every following 8th(10th) row until 37(53) sts remain. Work straight until back measures 4 1/4 (6) inches, ending with a wrong side row.

Shape Armholes
Cast off 6(10) sts at beg of next 2 rows. 25(33) sts remain.
Work straight until armholes measure 2 3/4 (3 1/2) inches ending with a wrong side row.

Shape Back Neck
Next row: K7(8), cast off next 11(17) sts, knit to end.Complete this side first.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 3 rows.
Work 1 row.
Cast off remaining 4(5) sts.

With wrong side of work facing rejoin yarn to neck edge of remaining sts, k2tog, knit to end. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows.
Cast off remaining 4(5) sts.

Right front
Cast on 25(34) sts and work 9 rows in garter st. Dec 1 st at end (side edge) of next and every following 8th(10th) row until 21(29) sts remain. Work straight until front measures same as back to armholes ending with a right side row (work 1 row less here for Left Front).

Shape Armhole
Cast off 6(10) sts at beg of next row. 15(19) sts remain.
Work straight until armhole measures 2 (2 1/2) ending with a wrong side row (work 1 row less here for Left Front).

Shape Neck
Cast off 7(9) sts at beg of next row.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 3 rows, then every alt row until 4(5) sts remain. Work straight until front measures same as back to shoulder ending at armhole edge. Cast off.

Mark positions on Right Front for 3(4) toggles, the first to be 1 1/2 inches above lower edge and the top one to be 1 1/2 inch below start of neck shaping. Space remaining 1(2) evenly between.

Left Front
Work to match Right Front reversing shaping by reading beg for end and working less rows where indicated, at the same time making
buttonholes to match markers on right side rows as follows:- knit to last 3 sts, yf, k2tog, kl.

Sleeves
Cast on 29(35) sts and work 5 rows in garter st (1st row is wrong side). Inc 1 st at each end of next and every following 6th row until there are 35(43) sts.
Work straight until sleeve measures 2 1/2 (3) inches, ending with a
wrong side row. Tie a marker at each end of last row to mark end of sleeve seam.
Work 12(20) more rows. Cast off.

Hood
Cast on 95(121) sts and work 3 rows in garter st (1st row is wrong side). Dec 1 st at each end of next and every alt row until 73(91) sts remain.
Work 5(3) rows straight thus ending with a wrong side row. Cast off 25(31) sts at beg of next 2 rows. 23(29) sts remain.
Work straight until piece measures 4 3/4 (6) inches from cast off sts ending with a right side row. Cast off.

Pockets (Make 2)
Cast on 8(11) sts and work in garter st (1st row is wrong side) until piece measures 1 1/2 (2) inches ending with a right side row.
Cast off.

To finish
Block each piece.
Join side and shoulder seams. Join sleeve seams to markers. Insert sleeves. Join back seams of hood. Sew hood to neck edge starting
and finishing 3 sts in from front edges and easing in if necessary. Sew pockets in place as illustrated. Press seams. Sew on toggles.
