Eggshells are an especially good shape to form the heads of dolls dressed in calico and gingham. The hair of the doll wearing the bonnet is done in a bun.
To make an egg-head doll, you need the same materials as for the walnut-head dolls, except that you use:
an egg for the head
2 or 4 yards of yellow or light-brown yarn
some ribbon
a red felt marker or rouge
Start by blowing out the egg (photograph 5).
To make pigtails, glue 12 strands of yarn 12 inches long across the top of the head, starting just at the forehead and continuing down the back. Make braids (photograph 6), and tie on ribbons matching the dress fabric. To make a bun, use 6-inch strands of yarn; glue on the same way, but fold up the ends and tie them into a bun with thread.
Draw the doll’s face with a fine-pointed black felt pen. Put a touch of color on the lips and cheeks with a red felt marker or rouge.

5: With the fine point of small, sharp scissors, make a tiny hole in each end of the eggshell. Then blow into one hole. This will expel the contents.

6: When the yarn has been glued to the head, divide it into two sets of six strands, and braid the pigtails. Tie on ribbon bows, and trim pigtail ends.
