THE PULLOVER
BACK AND SLEEVES: Work exactly as given for cardigan.
FRONT: Cast on 27 sts (M—31 sts) (L— 35 sts).
1st row: *(K1. P1)3 times (M—4 times) (L —5 times).* K2. (P1. K1)6 times. Repeat from * to * once. K1.
2nd row: K2. (P1. K1)twice (M—3 times)(L—4 times). P1. (K1. P1)9 times (M— 10 times) (L—11 times). K2.
Repeat these 2 rows of (K1. P1) ribbing and moss st once.
Keeping 13 sts in moss st for center panel, continue in stocking st (K 1 row, P 1 row) until work measures same length as back to armholes, ending with purl row.
To shape arm hole and left panel: Cast off 2 sts. K5 (M—K7) (L—K9). Leave remaining sts on spare needle. Turn. Cast on 2 sts for underlap.
Working on these 7 sts (M—9 sts) (L—11 sts) purl to last 2 sts. P2 tog for armhole dec.
Continue in stocking st decreasing 1 st at armhole edge every row to 4 sts on needle (M—6 sts) (L—8 sts) then continue even until armhole measures same as back to shoulders, ending at armhole edge. Cast off.
With right side of work facing, join yarn to remaining sts. Moss 13. Leave remaining sts on spare needle. Turn.
Working on center 13 sts work in moss st for same number of rows as in left panel.
Cast off.
With right side of work facing, join yarn to remaining sts. Cast on 2 sts for underlap. Working on these 7 sts (M—9 sts) (L—11 sts) continue to correspond to left panel.
TO MAKE UP: Sew side and shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew the 2 cast-on sts of underlap in position on wrong side. Sew 3 buttons to each side as illustrated.
